stochastic community dynamics

Gandon S & Nuismer SL 2009 Interactions between genetic drift, gene flow, and selection mosaics drive parasite local adaptation. Am Nat 173:212-224.

  • after selection, gene flow between habitats occurred with the probability of moving between any pair of habitats i and j, assumed to be μH in the host and μP in the parasite
  • after gene flow, mating took place within each population
  • alleles mutated following standard deterministic population genetic recursions
  • finally, each generation ended by sampling NH host and NP parasite individuals from each habitat, with the probability of drawing an individual given by the frequency of its genotype within the population
  • we varied host and parasite population sizes to study the effect of genetic drift
  • at the end of every generation, the different components of LA were calculated using equations (1) and (2)
